TAV members visit to Vermont Senator’s Office to support Reciprocal Access To Tibet Act S. 821

Burlington, VT: President and members of Tibetan Association of Vermont visited to Vermont Senator’s office to cosponsor and support for Reciprocal Access To Tibet Act.

Earlier in week, members of the Tibetan association of Vermont met with Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt) in Burlington, Vermont to persanlly thank him for cosponsoring the bill.

TAV Tibetan Language & Culture Summer Camp 2018

August 5th, 2018: Tibetan Association of Vermont organized a week long Tibetan language & culture summer camp for kids age above 6 years old, funded by The Tibet Fund, New York in partnership with the Office of Tibet, Washington, D.C. The week started from July 23rd to July 28th, 2018. The camp was held at Edmund middle school, Burlington, VT. A total of fourteen children participated in the summer camp. A week long camp went successful with the help of board members of TAV and the parents of participating children. Especially thanks to the mentor Lama K. Sonam La from Boston, who teach Tibetan  language and culture; and Migmar Tsering La, a Tibetan culture song & dance instructor.

25th Anniversary of Tibetan Resettlement in Vermont

Vermont: On June 2nd 2018, Vermont Tibetan Association, organised a Silver Jubilee celebration of Tibetan resettlement in Vermont, which was held at Burlington, Vermont. Representative Ngodup Tsering of Office of Tibet, Washington DC, attended the silver jubilee celebration. Other guests at the celebration include US Senator Patrick Joseph Leahy, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, and Mr Gerard G. Haase and James D. Kelley, who were part of the committee overseeing the Tibetan Resettlement Project, Burlington, in 1993. Forty other sponsors and employers of the first group of Tibetans resettling in Vermont were also invited to the celebration.

The event went successful with a speech from Representative Ngodup Tsering, Senator Patrick Leahy, and Mr. Gerard Haase. Thank you note from TAV president Mr. Sonam Chophel. Followed by cultural show, dinner and Tibetan group dance (gorshey).

 

 

1949 Tibet Film & Culture Show at Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center

This event is hosted by Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center. This event begins at 5:45 PM. The film will be presented at 7:00 PM.

Film Description:
The digitized and updated release by David Wright of a film by Lowell Thomas Jr. following his trip to Tibet in 1949 with his father, famous radio broadcaster Lowell Thomas. This film includes footage of the caravan trek through Tibet to Lhasa where the Thomases met with the fourteen year old Dalai Lama. Street scenes from Lhasa, footage from Sera and Drepong monasteries, with the Kashag ministers and regent of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, scenes from the Tibetan summer festival at Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s summer home––this is 1949 Tibet, a rare and precious view of the land and the people before the Chinese invasion.

Proceeds from the event will help support the establishment of the Vermont Tibetan Community Center in the greater Burlington area.

On March 10th, 2018, Tibetan Association of Vermont commemorating 59th Tibetan National Uprising Day. All Tibetan families, Old, young, kids, and American supporters joined the Peace March at Burlington downtown, Vermont.

Received Proclamation Letter from City of Burlington, Mayor Miro Weinberger.
